Two Of The Bored Ape Yacht Club Founders Were Doxed By Buzzfeed
Updated: Feb 8, 2022
It was anything but a boring evening at the Bored Ape Yacht Club Friday as two of clubs founders were doxed by Buzzfeed.
BAYC founders Gargamel and Gordon Goner had their real life identities revealed yesterday evening by Buzzfeed Reporter, Katie Notopoulos.
“BuzzFeed News can now reveal the identities of Bored Apes' two main founders: Greg Solano, a 32-year-old writer and editor, and Wylie Aronow, a 35-year-old originally from Florida, Notopoulos wrote in her article.
Notopoulos goes on to write that “Solano and Aronow don’t appear to have any particular red flags (apart from Aronow domain name squatting). But what if in a different NFT collective, the founders turn out to have a long criminal history or extreme political leanings that might make collectors regret spending huge sums of money on their products?”
Earlier this week, the BAYC founders discussed why they preferred to remain anonymous in an interview with Farokh.
“There’s a long history of anonymous/pseudonymous founders in crypto, and there are very real reasons why people want to protect their personal privacy in this space," the BAYC founders told Farokh. “But equally important to us is trust. We knew as soon as we wanted to enter into the space, that the thing to do would be to form a Delaware LLC. This allows us to be personally pseudonymous, while showing that we’re serious and dedicated to what we do here. Our employees and partners know who we are. And over the past nine months, the community has gotten to know us through our digital identities. We prefer to be judged based on our actions and work. In our view, this is about the club — not us.”
While Gordon Goners and Gargamel’s choice to remain anonymous was taken away, the pair made the best of the situation.
“Got doxxed against my will," Gordon Goner tweeted. “Oh well. Web2 me vs. Web3 me
Like Goner, Gargamel also shared a photo of himself. “Got doxed so why not, he tweeted. “Web2 me vs Web3 me.”
In a show of solidarity with the two BAYC founders, apes took to Twitter and doxed themselves.
“Web2 me vs Web3 me,” BAYC Member RdM_41 tweeted
Along with apes revealing themselves, tons of apes took to Discord to voice their support of the clubs founders.
This is a developing story. The Bored Ape Gazette will continue to follow it and bring you more information as it becomes available.
