‘THIS THING IS LIKE A SHIT CARTOON’: Joe Rogan, Paul Rosolie, And Young Jamie Debate Bored Apes, NFTs, And Digital Ownership On The Joe Rogan Experience!

Joe Rogan still doesn’t understand non-fungible tokens and went as far as calling Bored Apes a “shit cartoon” during a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience.

On Tuesday, the timeline was anything but boring after  “your favorite NFT trader’s favorite trader,” Clemente, shared a clip from Rogan’s October 2nd podcast featuring conservationist Paul Rosolie.

In the episode, Rogan and Rosolie called NFTs  worthless, while longtime Bored Ape Yacht Club member and show producer Jamie Vernon, attempted to explain the concept of digital ownership.

“This thing is like a shit cartoon,” Rogan said while looking at images of Bored Apes on Google.

Rogan, Rosolie, and Jamie discussed NFT ownership, with Rogan questioning Jamie’s explanation that owning an NFT is different from simply taking a screenshot. The three compared NFTs to owning cars and works of art, highlighting the diffeences between phyiscal and digital assets.

“The experience of having it on your phone and the experience of having a picture of my car are very different,” Rogan said. "If the Mona Lisa was only on a phone, just screenshot it and you could have the same experience of the Mona Lisa. The difference between the physical Mona Lisa is its hundreds of years old and it was painted by a master.”

Despite Jamie’s efforts to explain NFTs, Rogan and Rosolie remained unconvinced and the three moved on from the topic.

“much of the criticism is fair,” BAYC member and author of The Everything Token Steve Kaczynski tweeted. “There WAS an early gold rush and speculative bubble for NFTs. There IS a tech and cost barrier associated with Web3. There WERE and ARE scammers who take advantage of people in crypto. Just as there was, and still, with email, cell phones, and other iterations of technology. But, as someone who was relatively early to Web1 (coding websites in middle school in the mid 90's) and Web2 (Facebook in 2004), there's no doubt in my mind Web3 is the next phase of the internet. Digital ownership matters, and the more education we can get to the right people, the closer we can get to having them understand what this technology can truly do for the world.”

After the clip made its way around the swamp, Yuga Labs Co-Founder  Gordon Goner, tweeted “I could change Joe Rogan's mind about NFTs.”

As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, Rogan has been skeptical of NFTs since he first learned about Bored Apes during a September 23, 2021 episode with guest Patrick Bet-David.

At that time, Rogan made similar arguments, suggesting that right-clicking and saving an NFT was as good as owning it.
