Q&A: This AIP Aims To Make Every DAO Vote Anonymous Via Shielded Voting. Find Out More

There is an Ape Improvement Proposal on the ballot this week that aims to make DAO wide votes anonymous.

AIP-288 titled “Adopt Shielded Snapshot Voting for Elections and AIP’s,” is a process proposal written by ApeCoin DAO Contributor Br00no.

“Engagement is diminished, and voices silenced, with potential for corruption greatly increased, when voting identities are visible during a live vote,” Br00no wrote in his proposal. “Shielded voting is a right everyone should have, and the proper way to go.”

There is no cost to adding “shielded” voting to the ApeCoin DAO’s snapshot and it’s as simple as updating the DAO’s voting system, according to AIP-288.

“You can enable Shielded Voting within your space if you want to enable partial privacy and reduce voter apathy,” Br00no quoted from the Snapshot voting system’s website. “Shielded Voting is a voting setting in which the voters’ choices are private during the voting period and get revealed when the proposal closes.”

1.In a sentence or two can you sum up what your AIP is all about?

It proposes to shield (hide from view) voting results and how people voted until after voting is done.

2. What made you want to write this proposal?

“Visible results lead to corruption, pandering, collusion and voter apathy & harassment.”

3. What kind of impact do you think shielded voting would have on the DAO going forward?

“More fair, effective and equitable voting processes. IRL voting processes and low win / pass thresholds are a joke that lead to nothing good yet we’ve copied those systems without question or even an actual vote to copy those systems. Even those ultra-corrupt unfair IRL systems at least shield voting results until after voting is done. We can at least do that, and hopefully much better.”

4. Do you have anything else you’d like to add or say?

"I hope people take a few minutes to understand or ask about any AIP before voting. Thanks for asking!"

The window to vote on AIP-288 is currently open and $Apes have until tomorrow night to cast their coins on this proposal.
