Q&A: This AIP Aims to Grant Voting Rights to Various Communities to Onboard Them to $Ape.

There is an Ape Improvement Proposal on the ballot this week that hopes to create the framework for the ApeCoin DAO give voting rights to various communities in Web3 in an effort to increase participation in the ApeCoin DAO and to attract more builders to the $Ape ecosystem.

AIP-292 titled “Inclusive Governance: Delegate Community Program,” is a Process Proposal written by ApeCoin DAO Contributor and Novel Labs Head of Partnerships, NFD.

“This proposal seeks approval to establish a process and framework to build out a “Delegate Community Program" for the purpose of fostering inclusivity, further decentralization of cultural governance, and encouraging collaboration with ApeCoin from diverse web3 communities,” NFD wrote.

In his proposal, NFD explains that the ApeCoin DAO should look into ways to help NFT communities outside the Yugaverse set up their own delegate communities within the ApeCoin ecosystem and help onboard them into the DAO. By onboarding other communities, NFD believes that ApeCoin will be able to onboard other communities’ builders to $Ape.

AIP-292 will not cost the DAO anything and is only asking the community whether NFD and the DAO should look into the creation of a Delegate Community Program.

1. In a sentence or two can you sum up what your proposal?

“The proposal is seeking buy-in from DAO voters, introducing them to the concept of delegate communities. This will be a two-part proposal this (the first step) is introducing the concept. If accepted, the second proposal will bring forward the suggested steps for implementation and crucially the metrics to measure success."

2. Can you briefly define what a Delegate Community Program is and what that means?

“A delegate community is effectively a sub-DAO. The ApeCoin DAO would delegate voting rights (not the tokens themselves) to various communities in order to increase participation in the ApeCoin DAO and to attract builders from those communities to raise AIPs. Those communities would utilize their own NFTs/Collections as their voting tokens - in the same way Mocaverse does - and ultimately that would dictate the direction of their delegate vote.”

3. What inspired you to write this AIP?

“Having spent time in the DAO, first as a SC nominee and now as a participant, it is clear that there is an engagement issue and a distinct lack of growth. It seems obvious to me that the best way to remedy those issues is to increase the number of individuals and communities within the DAO.”

4. In a sentence or two, what would an Ape Delegate Community Program, look like in practice?

“X number of voting rights are delegated to a community by the ApeCoin DAO. Those communities establish their own snapshot organizations based on their own native collections/NFTs and mirror the voting proposals of the ApeCoin DAO. The outcome of that internal vote then dictates the directional vote on the main ApeCoin snapshot platform.”

5. Why does the DAO need to make this?

“If your priority is ApeCoin price, this AIP helps by onboarding builders from across web3 who in turn create new use cases and applications for the token. More use cases = more demand = increased price If your priority is robust governance, this AIP helps by further decentralizing the governance process. Onboarding an array of communities creates generates diversity of thought and should lead to better (for the DAO) outcomes.”

6. If passed, what happens next and what do you think it would cost to create this program when all is said and done?

“If this initial AIP passes, the second phase of the proposal will outline all associated information related to implementation. This will be co-authored by the Ape Assembly and will be a low cost initiative which people will be able to vote on.”

7. What impact will Delegate Community Program, have on future DAO votes?

“Better governance, better diversity and increased (hopefully high quality) proposals.”

The window to vote on AIP-292 is currently open and ApeCoin DAO Contributors have until Wednesday, September 13th at 9 P.M. EST, to cast their coins on this proposal.
