Q&A: nWayPlay Wants The ApeCoin DAO To Sponsor A Wreck League Tournament! Find Out More:

Ready. Set. Fight! There is an Ape Improvement Proposal on the ballot this week from Animoca Brands and nWay Play that asks the ApeCoin DAO to greenlight an ApeCoin sponsored Wreck League tournament and fund a $50,000 $Ape prize pool.

AIP-338 titled ‘The First ApeCoin Sponsored Competitive E-Sports Tournament with Wreck League’ By ApeCoin DAO Contributor and nWayPlay CEO and Co-Founder, TK.

“The objective of this proposal is to raise awareness of $APE among traditional gamers by showcasing $APE as the official currency in a professional competitive esports tournament–the Wreck League ApeCoin Tournament–featuring grand prizes designated in $APE,” TK wrote. “This will demonstrate $APE’s utility as a gaming currency, while also rewarding thousands of ApeCoin community members who already use their NFT mechs to fight in Wreck League battles.

For those who are unfamiliar with Wreck League, it's an $Ape powered player-vs.-player fighting game that launched in August 2023 and was created by Animoca Brands and nWayPlay.

In the game, users customize their fighting robots and battle to the death in mech melee combat! During the game's launch in August, TK says that 7,500 new wallets joined the $Ape ecosystem. This AIP is all about building upon that initial success and highlighting $Ape to gamers.

If AIP-338 passes, TK proposes that the ApeCoin tournament take place from December 6 to 12, with the top 150 finishers winning $Ape rewards. The first-place finisher will receive 18,000 $Ape, and the 150th-place finisher will receive 50 $Ape. Checkout the tournament's prize scale below:

1. In a sentence or two can you sum up your AIP?

“The AIP seeks to launch the first ApeCoin sponsored Web3 esports tournament. The tournament will be a live bracket tournament featuring head-to-head real-time Mech duels anticipated to attract significant attention from the Web3 gaming community.”

2. What inspired you to write this proposal?

“Wreck League is a Web3 Mech combat league where participants purchase mech parts, assemble their own mechs, and compete with other owners. Given that we offer Mech boxes that contain the mech parts exclusively via ApeCoins, it seemed fitting to introduce an ApeCoin-sponsored tournament where participants and winners can win ApeCoins by participating.”

3. Why are games an important part of the $Ape ecosystem?

“From the outset, when ApeCoin was introduced and announced, our collaboration with Yuga Labs on the development of a Mech game (Wreck League) was concurrently announced. ApeCoin is envisioned as the metaverse currency, central to experiences and games within the Yugaverse. Games play a crucial role in ensuring sustained engagement and retention in these digital realms.”

4. How would an $Ape sponsored Wreck League tournament impact the DAO?

“It would bring in more awareness to ApeCoin and the ApeCoin DAO. More games would use ApeCoin to forge sponsorships and tournaments with the ApeCoin DAO.”

5. If passed, how do you plan to get new users and people involved in the ApeCoin tournament?

“We’ve only just scratched the surface of the relationships we’ve formed with other web3 communities, from other projects to gaming DAOs to the entire Animoca Brands family, so we’ll start by activating all of those channels in earnest. Additionally, our content and social team has a pretty incredible track record of getting the word out about Wreck League through communication and assets, and we’ll turn them loose to get the word out + engage people to check out the game. And given that the new no-gas-fees/no-mint-necessary components of the game will be in place by then, anyone who wishes can check out Wreck League just by downloading it, so the leap from learning about it to trying it out is a much smaller one now.”

6. Where do you see Wreck League and the $Ape ecosystem a year from now?

“We envision Wreck League as a premium brand within the world of Web3 esports. We plan on bringing multiple innovations in the esports sector by expanding the stakeholders to include owners of teams, arenas, tournaments, as well as shops. There can be buy-in tournaments that are owned and arranged by the users that accept ApeCoins as the buy-in to compete as well as the rewards for winning.”

7. What should people know about your AIP before they vote?

“Our goal with this tournament, and with Wreck League in general, is to bring more great web3 gaming to more people. We believe strongly that most gamers don’t yet know the real benefits that a blockchain-enabled game can bring to their play experience…and that even those web3 gamers who do see what’s possible haven’t yet had many games that deliver on both that experience + a high-quality game. We see this tournament as a chance to show more people what’s possible, to bring more people into the ecosystem, and by virtue of that to bring more people into the ApeCoin community.”

8. Do you have anything else you’d like to add or say?

“We’ve loved working with Yuga and with the BAYC community over the past year+ as we’ve worked to build and release Wreck League. We think there’s so much more we can do together, and we’re eager for the chance to work more closely with this incredible, dedicated group.”

The window to vote on AIP-338 is currently open and ApeCoin DAO Contributors have until tomorrow, November 1st at 9 P.M. EST, to cast their coins and vote on this proposal.
