The ApeCoin community is currently voting on an Ape Improvement Proposal that's looking to turn the streaming industry on its head.
AIP-222 titled “A Web3 Streaming Platform Powered By ApeCoin,” is an ecosystem fund allocation proposal written by Non-Fungible Films’ founder and ApeCoin DAO contributor Cameron Moulene.
In AIP-222, Moulene explained that he and his team want to create a streaming platform, like YouTube or Twitch, where content creators retain their IP rights and earn more from ads.
Further, Moulene wrote that viewers on his platform will get to choose between directly paying for content they want to watch or watching a commercial and receiving a portion of the ad revenue that the video would receive.
“The ApeCoin Community should implement the proposal to position $APE as the driving force behind a platform which improves the value proposition for streaming media for content creators and audiences alike by rewarding communities themselves with a share of the creator’s ad revenue and by increasing the creator revenue share to 65%,” Moulene wrote. “Allowing creators to become a platform for their network’s content, we will create a truly community-focused streaming paradigm. Our goal is to make viewership fun, interactive, community driven, and to remove as many prohibitive factors as possible for creators to create and profit from their content.”
In total, Moulene is asking the ApeCoin DAO to allocate $2,200,000 USD to the project. Check out his budget below:

Can you tell me a bit about you and how you joined the DAO?
“I was invited into WG0 and began learning about how the DAO functioned and the new Shepard’s and systems in place.”
What inspired you to write this AIP? How’d you’d come up with it?
“I think AIP 222 is a servicing a much needed void in content distribution and will actualize a lot of the ideology of web3 in a scalable way.”
In a sentence or two can you explain what a web3 streaming platform is?
“It is a combination of FAST channels powered by advertising and Live streaming with improvised community tools where the community is rewarded with a stake in the ad revenue.”
How is a web3 streaming platform different from YouTube?
“We plan on giving creators substantially more of the revenue, we plan on sharing revenue with viewership and we plan on having a much stronger set of community tools than YouTube.”
What should the community know about you and this platform before they vote?
“I Hope to bring this to life because I believe it will greatly benefit $Apecoin and the ecosystem as a whole. Building NFF (Non-Fungible Films) is my passion and I’m thrilled at the chance to align with this community more.”
If passed, how can creators get involved on the site?
“We will create a simple creator onboarding flow.”
Where do you see this streaming platform a year from now?
“Pluto tv meets twitch.”

The window to vote on AIP-222 is currently open and $Ape holders have until Wednesday, April 12th, at 9 P.M. EST to cast their coins.
At the time of this article’s publication, 2.5 million $Ape has been cast in favor of AIP-222 while 213K coins have been cast against the proposal, and 1.5 million $Ape has abstained.
