Q&A: Find Out More About AIP-225 And The Team Behind Ape Page
The ApeCoin DAO is currently voting on an Ape Improvement Proposal that aims to make it easier for holders to share their Ape’s stories!
AIP 225 titled “Ape Page -One place for everything about your Ape,” is an ecosystem allocation fund proposal written by Bored Ape Yacht Club member Nyxeros.
“Over the last year, the Yuga ecosystem has exploded,” Nyxeros wrote. “Otherside Deeds, Mutant Cartel, pets, Sewer Passes, claims, ApeCoin, the list goes on and on. You’ve been working hard to keep up and work your way through the ranks of the Yugaverse, but all that involvement is hard to visualize.”
Because of this growth, Nyxeros proposed that the DAO fund “Ape Page,” a website that highlights members accomplishments and community involvement.
“Connect your wallet, and Ape Page automatically pulls together your BAYC/MAYC PFPs, Sewer Passes, Pets, Jenkins Licenses, ApeCoin Staking stats, wearables, derivatives, Discord Roles, PFP Lore, achievements (and more) into a unique website with a custom URL belonging to you and your ape,” Nyxeros wrote.
In total, Nyxeros is asking the DAO to allocate 25,000 $Ape or about $125,000 USD to AIP-225.
To find out more about AIP-225, the Gazette reached out to the Ape Page team for an interview. Check it out below:
Tell me a bit about yourselves and how you got involved in the DAO.
“We’re a team of three brothers (@Nyxeros, @MIKER, and @Brawndo) who have been working in blockchain since 2016. Together, we created @PixelOffering, one of the first NFT projects, and Snowfro's first on-chain art gallery. We were also co-founders of @radardottech, one of the first decentralized exchanges. Additionally, we’ve developed foundational Web3 educational content, including weth.io (now at weth.page), erc721.org, and many more. We are Yugaverse NFT holders (mostly Mutants) and have been following the Yuga ecosystem since its inception. We are extremely excited about the potential of the ApeCoin DAO and felt that creating a proposal and going through the full process was the best way to engage, learn more about how we can contribute, and inspire others to participate.”
In a sentence or two can you sum up what AIP-225 is all about?
“AIP-225 proposes the creation of a product called Ape Page and asks for enough funds to cover hosting and operational costs for all Ape holders for the first year. Ape Page enables Ape holders to claim a personalized website/URL that highlights important information related to their Ape. You can link to your Ape Page from anywhere (e.g. Twitter Bio, Linktree, The Otherside) to showcase your involvement in the ecosystem.”
How’d you come up with this idea?
The idea for Ape Page came from several places:1. It was a nightmare trying to explain to our friends, both in real life and online, which Web3 communities we're a part of and what we were doing there.
2. We have been participating in the ecosystem and found it difficult to keep track of our own holdings and how they relate to one another. Current profile viewers are not suited to handle the complexities of the ecosystem and don’t display things like Discord roles, achievements, NFT sets (BAYC/MAYC/BAKC, 10ktf, etc.), IP licensing, and more recently, Otherside/minigame involvement effectively.
3.We grew up playing games and are accustomed to gaming interfaces and community tools. With many Yugaverse projects implementing some level of gaming, as well as the impending Otherside release, we realized that the ecosystem needs a game-inspired interface to help organize and showcase your avatar. The primary inspiration for Ape Page came from the WoW Armory."
How does Ape Page work and how are you making sure people’s assets are safe when connecting their wallets?
“Ape Page is an evolution of some fairly sophisticated, pre-existing technology we built at skry.xyz. This tech is able to index on-chain and off-chain data about NFTs in near-real time. With Ape Page we’re adjusting this technology to focus on Yugaverse projects and to surface the information in a way that tells a story about your PFPs/Avatars. The page claim mechanic is smart contract-based and will behave similarly to ENS domain names, where a holder will need to pay a yearly fee to maintain the page. To ensure the app is secure, we are using warm/delegate.cash for wallet connections so Ape holders do not need to connect a cold wallet. We are also getting a smart contract audit and a penetration test for the whole app.”
Why does the community need something like this?
"There is a huge need for Ape Page for several reasons: 1. Information overload: The ecosystem is expanding at an exponential rate, and we need more tools to keep track of everything.
2. Avatars: As the ecosystem continues to evolve with a significant focus on gaming, a tool is needed which focuses on our Avatars rather than the more traditional wallet/profile viewers.
3. Accomplishments/Reputation: The Yugaverse is full ****of incredibly talented and motivated individuals building expansive products and communities. Ape Page helps to highlight these Lore Layer (L2) ecosystems and their associated communities’ accomplishments.
4. Onboarding: Ape Page makes it easier to explain the Yugaverse to your normy friends and will help to onboard the next wave of users.”
What should the DAO know about you and your AIP before they vote?
“We are an experienced team both in Web2 and Web3 product development and are dedicated to building a highly polished product and engaging user experience. We have a huge backlog of future ideas and features that we can’t wait to build. Some hints at these ideas include:1.Theming and customization, including multi-media uploading/display to enhance lore and storytelling2. Chat GPT integration to assist with lore3. NFT groups/set-based marketplace mechanics. 4. Achievements functionality.5. Connecting with other avatars based on factions, guilds, skills, achievements. The current state of the proposal likely doesn’t represent what the finished product will be. We understand the fluid nature of web3 and will be listening to and implementing feedback from the community and our early users as we build.”
Where do you see Ape Page a year from now?
“A year from now, we would love to see every BAYC/MAYC with an Ape Page and have Ape Page directly integrated into The Otherside. We also plan to expand beyond BAYC/MAYC into other PFPs, which will end up being playable Otherside avatars.”
Do you have anything else you’d like to add or say?
Voting for AIP-225 will close Apr 19, 2023, at 6:00 PM PT. We encourage everyone to check it out and vote regardless of their choice. Our primary goal is to gauge interest in the idea and engage with the community on desired ideas and features."
