Q&A: Find Out More About AIP-169 And The Beyond the SWAMP Bi-Monthly Magazine It Aims To Create

The ApeCoin DAO is currently voting on an Ape Improvement Proposal that aims to create a longform magazine based on the Yuga Labs ecosystem!

AIP-169 titled “Beyond the SWAMP: Bimonthly ApeCoin & Yuga Labs Focused Magazine + NFT,” in an ecosystem fund allocation proposal written by longtime Bored Ape Yacht Club member AllCityBAYC.

“Beyond the SWAMP aims to produce a vibrant, high-quality collectible bimonthly magazine claimed through the sale of accompanying NFTs displaying each issue’s cover art—similar to Punks comic but with varying rarity and added rewards,” AllCityBAYC wrote.

Beyond the SWAMP magazine’s coverage will focus on the ApeCoin DAO, the expanding Yugaverse, and the various members and groups doing interesting things with their Yuga Labs assets.

In total, AllCityBAYC is asking the ApeCoin DAO for a one-time grant of $52,500 USD to start the business and print the first issue of Beyond the SWAMP.

How’d you get into the BAYC? What’s your story?

“I used to make sketchbooks for graffiti artists with different objects to draw your name on and wanted to create a digital version with graffiti already in it. Was taking a course at the time in early 2021 and an instructor gave me an invite to the Clubhouse app where I ended up meeting a group of apes.”

What made you want to create a Yuga labs magazine? How’d you come up with the idea?

“As a BAYC, Cryptopunks and Meebits holder I wanted to provide a way for these communities to align themselves a little closer. I also believe that we need to be celebrating diversity within the NFT space and there’s no better place to start than here.”

How will a Yuga centric magazine help the DAO?

“Although separate, I view ApeCoin and the ApeCoinDAOs success closely tied to the future of Yuga Labs and directions they take. We’ve also got so many great builders operating under the YL umbrella doing amazing things with ApeCoin who need a platform to showcase themselves and help inspire others. Keeping that in mind, it’s also critical that we open the eyes of communities outside of our ecosystem so there will be a variety of opportunities for contributors to submit content.”

What should ape holders know about this idea before they vote?

“Our goal is to educate and bring people into the ApecoinDAO through fun, meaningful content. We grew up as skateboarding graffiti artists who understand culture and the importance of pushing it forward the right way.”

Where do you see this magazine in a year from now?

“BeyondTheSWAMP is building towards a distribution model that will put our magazines in bookshops and gaming store shelves by Q2/Q3 2024.”
