Q&A: AIP-260 Is Looking To Create $Ape Welcome Kits For Newcomers To The $Ape Ecosystem

The ApeCoin DAO is voting on an Ape Improvement Proposal that aims to welcome newcomers a-bored to the $Ape ecosystem with informational $Ape goodie bags!

AIP- 260 titled “Forever Apes // Welcome To ApeCoin, The IRL Onboarding Kit,” is a brand decision proposal written by ApeCoin DAO contributor and Forever Apes Founder 12Gauge.

“This proposal aims to create ApeCoin branded Welcome Kits to serve as onboarding and educational tools to attract newcomers. Provided to event organizers (at no cost) for giveaways at IRL events, these kits will educate newcomers about the DAO via printed guides (available in 4 languages), scannable invites to social channels, and serve as event takeaways to be filled with event-specific merchandise provided by event organizers / sponsors.”

While 12Gauge and the Forever Apes team did not specify how many welcome kits they will be able to create via their AIP, they did say that each kit would include: holographic ApeCoin logo stickers, foam insert/ gift wrap, a 4-page quick start mini booklet on how to onboard & get involved in the DAO, and a scannable code to drive users to the DAO’s channels!

In total 12Gauge and the Forever Apes team are asking the ApeCoin DAO to allocate $17,500 USD worth of $Ape to them so they can begin designing and producing the welcome kits.

12Gauge believes that these boxes can be designed and produced in 15 weeks, according to his proposal.

How and why did you come up with this proposal?

“The details was initially spawned from the Thank Ape idea-a-thon initiative, but the overall concept stems from the lack of ApeCoin presence at IRL events. We love the DAO and the community, and want to watch it continue to grow. By creating kits, not only does it become a welcome kit and marketing tool, it also gives an opportunity for event sponsors to be seen by a new audience. Win/win in our eyes!”

Why is having physical items for new comers important?

“Right now the DAO is a very complicated concept, we want to simplify it and make the idea of joining and participating less daunting. We feel the best way to intro someone is via something they can take home and hold onto. The box will be a high quality keepsake, that comes with a printed quick start guide that covers the DAO roles and structure in a digestible way.”

What kind of info will be in the quick start booklets?

“We are working alongside BojangleGuy on his digital onboarding guide and taking the key learnings from his research and simplifying them into a printed guide. The goal is that this welcome kit would act as a handshake to the DAO, which then leads you into the virtual version which covers everything more in depth.”

If passed, what kind of impact do you think this AIP will have on the DAO going forward?

“We hope that everyone loves the experience of unboxing a physical merch kit and sees the effort that the DAO puts in to help make people feel welcome and involved. We feel like there's no better time than now to focus on getting these into peoples hands alongside the BAYC Council event grants and the Made By Apes initiative. There's so much great stuff being created around us, and we hope that this can help bring creators and audiences together while also becoming a part of our community.”

Do you have anything else you’d like to add?

“Although we eat breathe sleep ApeCoin, we'd also love to offer this concept to other communities as well. We're all about collaboration and we don't want to ever act in a silo, but rather connect all of these different communities who make up web3. The ecosystem is smaller than we think, and we'd like to help make connections across communities and projects via a high quality onboarding keepsake.”

The window to vote on AIP-260 is currently open and $Apes have until tomorrow night at 9 P.M. EST, to cast their coins on this proposal.
