PROBABLY NOTHING: Yuga Labs CEO Garga Teases Two Major Otherside Updates In 2025 And Hints At An Overarching Story In The Metaverse! Here's What We Know So Far:

After a record-breaking Otherside turnout over the weekend, Yuga Labs is getting 'BAYC' to work on the metaverse and gearing up for its next two big feats: first, making the persistent Otherside a reality this June, followed by a winter release focused on Otherdeeds!

Following Saturday’s historic Project Dragon event in the swamp, which culminated in breaking the Guinness World Record for most players in a first-person shooter with 2,197 gamers apeing in, Yuga Labs announced on Wednesday that it will be forgoing the next couple of months' Project Dragon events to focus on getting the first iteration of Otherside ready for its June launch!

“Hugely thankful to everybody who helped us break the Guinness World Record for most players in a shooter on Otherside this past weekend,” Yuga Labs CEO Garga tweeted. “Super fun, and insanely chaotic. Excited for Otherside's next milestone: the always-on, persistent world. This won't be our only major release this year, but it's a big milestone, and one we're targeting for June. Will be putting Project Dragon on pause for a couple months so we can crush this release. We'll have our always-on social hub, with achievements, trading, tipping and transacting all on ApeChain. Features like Bubbles, Poker, and the Kodacam, as well as a range of ODK experiences, from Bathroom Blitz to smaller games and features, that we've been methodically building out with a variety of different partners and community builders. And at the center of it all is Nexus, the ancestral home of the Kodas.”

 

 

 

Following this tweet, Garga took to the Otherside Discord and elaborated on it, teasing a second 2025 launch that will take place during the most wonderful time of the year!

“We're focused on two releases this year: June release for persistent world with all the things I've been talking about (main islands online, transacting on ApeChain, fun social features like Bubbles, Poker, etc, and ODK games like Bathroom Blitz) and a Winter release focused on Otherdeeds with a fast follow for resources starting to be emitted.”

 

Along with announcing a second big event in 2025, Garga also confirmed that there will be a storyline in Otherside.

“There's an overarching meta story to Otherside, centered around Chaos and Creation,” he wrote. “The blue Soma energy that powers creation and building and the red and pink energies of Chaos and destruction. Each of the main islands have their own way that these things come into play.”

While we do not know much about this overarching story at this time, we do know that Garga and the Yuga Labs team have previously given us a glimpse of these forces at work on the Koda homeworld of Nexus in their “Before Curtis” Otherside teaser trailer from September 2022.

 

 

 

“In its prime, Nexus was illuminated by Soma, which is the creation energy you saw Blue bottling up in the Otherside B.C. trailer,” Garga wrote in an Otherside Discord post back in January. “But chaos, the other energy we see in the trailer and throughout Otherside, has really fucked the place up these days.”
