ON THE MOVE: ApeCoin Staking Migrates From Ethereum To ApeChain This Tuesday, April 15th!

The next few days will be anything but boring around the swamp as the ApeCoin DAO’s staking system moves from Ethereum mainnet to ApeChain!
On Tuesday, April 15th, the ApeCoin DAO’s three NFT-based staking pools, the Bored Ape Only, the Mutant Ape Only, and the Bored Ape Kennel Club pools, will close on Ethereum and reopen on ApeChain, utilizing Yuga Labs’ new shadow tech.
“ApeCoin NFT staking is migrating to ApeChain,” the DAO tweeted earlier this week. “To keep earning rewards, you’ll need to stake through the new ApeChain staking site, coming April 15. Powered by BAYC, MAYC, and BAKC Shadows.”
At this time, the DAO has not released many specifics about the new staking platform, but we do know that it will function similarly to the current ApeStake.io and, importantly, it will not be geo-blocked. This means that everyone, including users in the U.S., will be able to stake via the official website.
As we wait for more official information, Yuga Labs’ Vice President of Blockchain, 0xQuit, shared a quick step-by-step guide on Twitter earlier this month explaining what Apes will need to do and clarified that there’s no need to bridge NFTs to ApeChain in order to stake.
“You do not need to bridge your ape, your Shadow will act as your staking key, he explained. “You do need to bridge your ApeCoin. Withdraw from ApeStake, bridge, and then deposit on the new site. Best to do this as close to the migration date as possible."
In addition to utilizing NFT Shadows on ApeChain, Bored Ape Kennel Club holders will now be able to stake in their own dedicated BAKC pool without needing to pair with a Bored or Mutant Ape for the first time ever, according to 0xQuit.
Once the BAYC, MAYC, and BAKC-only staking pools are live on ApeChain, all ApeCoin staking will officially be on ApeChain.
As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, the DAO sunset the $APE-only staking pool in November 2024 in favor of native yield on-chain.
Currently, the ApeCoin DAO is in the third and final year of its staking program, which is set to end on or around March 3, 2026. During this final year, the DAO will distribute 25 million $APE to stakers across the three NFT pools and through native yield, according to AIP-21 and AIP-22 from 2022.
