ON THE BALLOT: This AIP Wants To Put 13.8 Million $Ape Votes In The Hands Of BAYC Members, Otherside Voyagers, And Kodas
There is an Ape Improvement Proposal on the ballot this cycle that aims to put 13.8 million $Ape votes in the hands of Bored Ape Yacht Club members, Otherside Voyagers, and Koda holders.
AIP-489 titled "Restoring Balance," is a process proposal written by former ApeCoin DAO Special Council member Gerry and co-authored by former Special Council member Captain Trippy, ApeCoin whale Jrny Crypto, former Governance Working Group Steward Amplify, and Surreal Guild Founder DeJen.
“This proposal aims to allocate 13.8 Million ApeCoin in voting power to better reflect the contributions and stakes of Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC), Kodas, and Otherdeed holders within our community,” Gerry wrote. “We aim to create a more balanced and representative governance. We aim to create two distinct wallets; one for the monkees and one for the Kodas and the Deeds they keep watch over.”
Under this proposal, the Bored Ape Yacht Club and the Otherside communities will each receive 6.9 million $Ape delegated to their new delegations for one year, with their respective NFT holders voting on how these coins should be cast.
“The proposed voting adjustment aims to empower those who were intended to lead The Otherside,” Gerry explained. “This change is designed to foster a fairer voting environment, promoting decisions that benefit the broader community and support the long-term health of the ecosystem. The timing is critical as we approach the launch of major initiatives like Otherside and ApeChain.”
AIP-489 will not cost the DAO anything monetarily, and the ApeCoin DAO will remain in control of the coins throughout the proposal’s one-year duration, according to Gerry.
The window to vote on AIP-489 is currently open, and ApeCoin DAO contributors have until Wednesday, August 28th, to cast their coins and vote on this proposal.
The Bored Ape Gazette is working to find out more about AIP-489 and will be reaching out to Gerry for an interview later this weekend. Stay tuned for updates!
