ON THE BALLOT: This AIP Proposes Shutting Down The ApeCoin DAO Working Groups And Empowering The Ape Foundation To Hire Third Parties Via RFPs!

The ApeCoin DAO community is heading to the polls this cycle to vote on whether to close the DAO’s four Working Groups and direct the Ape Foundation to issue Requests for Proposals for any future services or duties the DAO may need.

Ape Improvement Proposal 466, titled “Proposal To Close Non-Essential Working Groups,” is a process proposal written by ApeCoin DAO Contributor SmartApe and co-authored by former ApeCoin DAO Special Council Member Captain Trippy.

In this AIP, SmartApe proposes that the DAO dissolve the Governance Working Group, the Marketing & Communications Working Group, the Metaverse Working Group, and the Web3 Development Working Group. The proposal also directs the Ape Foundation to hire third parties on an as-needed basis through the RFP process, modeled after the DAO’s AIP process, which was approved four months ago with the passing of AIP-401.

“Collectively, all four working groups are costing or will cost the DAO almost $3M per year,” SmartApe wrote. “To date, the new Working Groups have been largely ineffective in their mandate. As per the Q1/24 financial reports which we all knew would be bad (and we have yet to see Q2 & Q3), it is clear that the treasury is fast running out of disposable funds. Ape Foundation Transparency Report - 2024 - Q1 6. We the DAO need to stop the financial bleeding and to take necessary steps to preserve the treasury and reposition it for prosperity.”

If passed, AIP-466 would not cost the ApeCoin DAO anything monetarily and would be implemented immediately.

“I know there are people disappointed to see me as an author of this AIP. I did not take this decision lightly,” Captain Trippy tweeted after the AIP went live. “I have a tremendous amount of respect for the stewards and the work done in the working groups. Change is hard. I always try and operate by doing what is best for the community and DAO and that’s the same here, even if that is the hard thing to raise your hand and do. Ultimately this decision is not up to me, it’s up to the community to decide with a vote. There are amazing people working in the DAO. Several of which I would LOVE to see continue their work, such as @popilart, @dim8765 , @AllCityBAYC, and others. This is not a vote against them. This is a vote of setting the foundation up to be able to hire and fire on need, seek the best people for the job, and to decrease expense and waste where necessary.”

 

The window to vote on AIP-466 is currently open, and ApeCoin DAO contributors have until Wednesday, October 16th, to cast their votes on this AIP.
