After the ApeCoin DAO’s second election season earlier this summer, there is an Ape Improvement Proposal on the ballot asking the DAO to provide more information on the role of a Special Council member.
AIP-282 titled “Information Request - Role of Special Council,” is an informational proposal written by ApeCoin DAO Contributor BadTeeth.
“The goal of this AIP idea is to establish a clear understanding of the current responsibilities of the Special Council,” BadTeeth wrote. “The Ape Foundation and the current SC are asked to provide this information to the community within 15 days of this AIP passing in the form of a written document that clearly outlines the day-to-day responsibilities, requirements, and expectations of the SC members.”
Currently, the best explanation that $Ape holders have about the roles and responsibilities of an ApeCoin DAO Special Council member come from AIP-137; which established the position’s nomination process.
“Elected Special Council members are expected to attend weekly, or on an as-needed basis, council meetings, review AIPs at meetings or by email, and commit 3 or more hours per week or as sufficient time as needed to the role," AIP-137 states. "A standard non-disclosure agreement shall be entered into with the Ape Foundation and KYC documents shall be collected as well.”
Along with AIP-137, former Special Council member and Animoca Brands’ Chairman, Yat Siu, has previously compared the role of a Special Council member xto that of a steward who executes the will of the $Ape community.
“The role of the Special Council is to act as stewards of @apecoin its purpose to serve the $ape community with a mission to be the layer for community-led initiatives that drive culture forward into the #open #metaverse #web3,” Siu said in a Twitter thread on May 7th. “The Special Council members role is that of a steward, we serve the community, we are not operators, there is no CEO, we are servants to the @apecoin DAO community.”
With AIP-282, BadTeeth hopes that the community can get more insight and clarity on what the Special Council does on a day-to-day basis.
“One of the DAO’s Guiding Values is Transparency," BadTeeth wrote. “The DAO will have the opportunity to improve its governance process with transparent communication around the role of the Special Council.”
If this proposal is passed, then the Ape Foundation will need to share a post in the DAO's Discourse that outlines the “day-to-day responsibilities, requirements, and expectations of the SC members” within 15 days of the AIP-282's approval, according to the proposal. Further, AIP-282 will not cost the DAO any money.
The window to vote on AIP-282 opens tonight at 9 P.M. EST and ApeCoin DAO Contributors will have until next Wednesday, August 2nd, to cast their coins.
