"NEXT LEVEL": Yuga Labs Hired Epic Games' EVP Of Development, Mike Seavers, As Its Next CTO

Writer: KyleKyle

Yuga Labs has added another video game veteran to its c-suite executive ranks as the company looks to reach the next level.

On Friday, Yuga Labs announced that Epic Games’ Current Executive Vice President of Development, Mike Seavers, will be joining the swamp as the company's next Chief Technology Officer.

"Mike has a proven track record of taking organizations to the next level, and he shares our vision for how important digital identity and community will be for the future of the internet," Yuga Labs’ CEO Daniel Alegre said in a press release. “We have an opportunity to be the web3 platform at the forefront of community and social engagement, through media and entertainment, and Mike's expertise will help us scale to achieve that.”

Seavers, who has spent the last two decades at places like Epic Games and Riot Games where he worked on projects like the Unreal Engine and Fortnite, is set to take over for Yuga Labs’ current Chief Technology Officer, EmperorTomatoKetchup, on May 22nd.

“I’m beyond excited for Mike Seavers to succeed me as CTO at Yuga Labs, Tomato AKA Kerem Atalay tweeted this morning. “I have complete confidence in Mike and believe he is the right person to scale the Yuga engineering org to deliver on our ever-growing ambitions as a company. It has been an immense privilege to watch Yuga grow from the four-person team that it once was into the Web3 juggernaut that it is today, and I cannot wait to see where we go from here.”

Going forward, Tomato will serve as a close strategic advisor to Yuga Labs.

Following Yuga Labs’ announcement this morning, Seavers took to LinkedIn and told his network about his new boring opportunity.

“So honored to be joining the incredibly talented team at Yuga Labs under the leadership of Daniel Alegre in a few weeks,” he wrote. “Yuga has built something amazing, with an incredible vision for the future, and I'm beyond excited to be a part of the journey! More to come!”

Seavers is the second gaming veteran to join the Yuga Labs c-suite executive team this year. As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, Yuga Labs hired Activision Blizzard’s former Chief Operating Officer, Daniel Alegre, in December 2022 and he officially started his job at Yuga Labs on April 1st, 2023.

Back in December 2022, Yuga Labs’ Co-Founder, Garga, said that Alegre was brought into the swamp to help the company compete with “giants” in the metaverse space.

“When it comes to the metaverse we’re competing with giants,” Garga wrote on December 19th, 2022. “In order to catapult Otherside and our other ambitious projects to new heights, we’ve known for a long time we wanted to bring in someone with a proven track record of building at the highest possible level.”

The Bored Ape Gazette will continue to follow Seavers and will keep you posted on all things Yuga Labs. Stay tuned for updates!
