Moonpay Purchased A Gold Fur Bored Ape Adding Fuel To The Elon Musk Rumors

Crypto payment company Moonpay just aped into a gold fur bored ape leading people to wonder what the company is planning.

Moonpay purchased Bored Ape #1837 from notable Bored Ape Yacht Club member Deepak Thapliyal Thursday evening for 569 Eth.

“I thought I had it at 690.420 ETH, Thapliyal tweeted following the sale. “Oh well..as long as it goes to @ElonMuskI’ll be happy. CC: @moonpay.”

Bored Ape #1837 is a six trait solid gold fur bored ape with a wool turtleneck, crazy eyes and a short mohawk. Based on these traits, Bored Ape #1837 is the 246th most rare ape, according to Rarity Tools.

While it is unclear if Thapliyal has inside information on Musk joining the BAYC, the rumor of the tech CEO joining the club isn’t new.

As the Bored Ape Gazette previosiuly reported, a photo of Elon Musk with the CEO of Moonpay, Ivan Soto-Wright, circulated around the BAYC yesterday.

“Moonpay meeting with Elon Musk," BAYC member Willy Bullish tweeted along with a photo of Musk and Soto-Wright. “Is it finally happening?!?”

The Bored Ape Gazette reached out to Soto-Wright and asked him if the photo of him and Musk. Soto-Wright has not replied to our request for comment.

While we do not know who Moonpay will be bringing into the swamp next, we do know that the company has been going bananas for bored apes recently.

With today’s purchase, Moonpay has now bought six bored apes in the last 15 days, according to Opensea data.

In total, the company now holds 13 bored apes, one mutant ape and an M1& M2 Mutant serum.
