MEET THE CANDIDATE: WebMoss Is Running To Be One Of The ApeCoin DAO's First Web3 Development Working Group Stewards
Updated: Jun 1
After building in the crypto space for years and participating in a number of hackathons, WebMoss won an ApeCoin DAO-sponsored event and decided to ape into $Ape afterward. Since then, he has helped out around the DAO and even wrote up the framework for the Web3 Development Working Group that he is now running for a position on. If elected, WebMoss hopes to inspire more builders like him and continue the DAO’s outreach at hackathons around the world!
The ApeCoin DAO’s summer election season is anything but boring as the community gets ready to elect two of its fellow ApeCoin DAO contributors to chair the DAO’s new Web3 Development Working Group.
The goal of this committee will be to “build income generating projects for the ApeCoin DAO, ApeCoin initiatives like ThankApe, Boring Security DAO, MBA licensed projects, and the ApeCoin community. ApeChain will be a strong focus point once we reach that point,” according to the group’s mandate.
In total, five ApeCoin DAO contributors have thrown their hats in the ring and are running for these positions. Among the candidates vying for this role is WebMoss.
"My journey with the ApeCoin DAO began just over a year ago, and since then, I have been deeply inspired by the community’s shared values and collective vision for the future," WebMoss wrote on his candidate page. "As I reflect on my core values, I find a profound alignment with the ethos of decentralization, collaboration, and innovation that defines the ApeCoin DAO.At the heart of my values lies a firm belief in the power of community-driven initiatives to effect positive change. I am passionate about fostering an environment where every member feels empowered to contribute their unique skills and perspectives towards our shared goals. Transparency, inclusivity, and integrity are guiding principles that I hold dear, and I am committed to upholding these values in all my interactions within the ApeCoin community."
To find out more about WebMoss and why he is the right $Ape for the job, the Bored Ape Gazette reached out to him for an interview. Check it out below:
1. In a sentence or two what is your candidacy all about?
“My candidacy is about fostering a home where creators, builders, and community members unite to support the DAO's vision, driving community-led initiatives that boost revenue for our ecosystem. We have an incredible opportunity with ApeChain to make this vision a reality.”
2. Why did you decide to run for $Ape office?
“As the author of AIP 376 which formed the Web3 Development Working Group, I felt it was my duty to run for the steward role to ensure its successful implementation. If you talk the talk, you must be prepared to walk the walk. The ApeCoin community has also given me so much to be thankful for, and I would be truly honored to be accepted for the position, allowing me to pay it forward and continue contributing to the collective good of the community and the ApeCoin DAO.”
3. This Working Group is new at the DAO, how do you plan to build a solid foundation?
“As this Working Group is new to the DAO, our strategy for establishing a robust foundation revolves around the objectives outlined in AIP 376. This involves crafting a framework that optimizes opportunities for success among builders and projects in our ecosystem. By leveraging the vibrancy of our Web3 and ApeCoin communities, I'm confident that through collaboration and networking, we can accomplish some very ambitious goals. By drawing on past experiences and fine-tuning our processes, we'll construct a sturdy groundwork for what lies ahead.”
4. What should the Web3 Development Working Group be about?
“It was announced last year that the ApeCoin DAO can receive revenue from AIPs and projects within the community. There has been much talk around bringing needed value back to the DAO and believe there needs to be a more structured focus on doing this. One of the main objectives of the group will be to create a framework that will accomplish this goal. The group should be focused on empowering builders, giving them the resources, funding and community support they need, so that we all have the best chance of success. We have a wealth of talent in the community already and need to tap into one of our most valuable resources.”
5. What makes you the right $Ape for the job?
“Beyond my time in the IT sector, my personal experiences over the last four years in the Web3 hackathon space and the ApeCoin DAO provides me with a unique perspective that will add value and help us achieve our goals. I have been in the trenches with fellow builders, attended various hackathon events, participated in different grant and pilot programs, and have navigated my own struggles with the AIP process. I can genuinely relate to these challenges and am committed to streamlining the process to attract the best and brightest to come innovate, and build on ApeChain.”
6. What would you like to accomplish during your term?
“One of my goals is to build upon Maaria's achievements with AIP 230 by supporting EthGlobal and other hackathon events with a strong focus on ApeChain, this will allow is to tap into a vast pool of talent in the web3 space. By securing funding for a second term and harnessing the power of established hackathon communities like EthGlobal will enable us to attract builders and crucially, talent to the ApeCoin community and ApeChain. I look forward to working with the Horizen Labs team, providing all the support they require and amplify all efforts through our communications and marketing channels. We have a lot of work to do in the next 12 months and we need all hands on deck. Establishing a framework to return value to the DAO is paramount. This will also streamline AIP processes and administrative tasks, enabling us to concentrate on building. Lastly, we must endeavor to support projects and provide them with a launchpad for success.”
7. Why is becoming a Working Group Steward important for you personally?
“As a Web3 builder in the space, I have faced many of the challenges involved in rapid prototyping and launching a project or idea, it's no easy feat. One of my personal struggles coming from more of a development background was having to quickly switch to a marketing and communications role to gain support for your project or AIP. Becoming a Working Group Steward holds personal significance for me due to my experiences and I aim to assist and mentor more builders entering our ApeCoin ecosystem, alleviating some of the growing pains they may face.”
8. How did you get into crypto?
“I got into the Web3 space in 2019 when I volunteered for EthGlobal's ETH Cape Town event. It was a truly amazing experience seeing people from all corners of the globe, some of them complete strangers, all come together and build amazing projects, needless to say I was hooked. I spent the next 4 years diving into the space as a developer, with my interest falling mainly to the tech side of things, attending as many hackathons as I could muster, tinkering with different protocols and technologies and just growing in the web3 space. I joined the ApeCoin DAO in March 2023 after winning a prize for one my projects called "The Ape Inn" and have been an active member since.”
9. What do you like to do outside of Web3?
“I live in Jeffreys Bay which is a small, but popular surf town in South Africa. I enjoy spending quality time with my wife and two children on our beautiful beaches and lagoons. Whenever I have some free moments and the waves are pumping, you'll find me indulging in my other true passion which is surfing.”
10. Do you have anything else you’d like to add or say?
“I'm excited to see the Web3 Development WG come to life. We have some amazing candidates, and I would like to wish you all the best of luck in the elections.”
