Following a fun Friday night on the Otherside, Yuga Labs Co-Founder Gordon Goner took to the timeline to say that the best of the Otherside is yet to come!
Earlier this week, Apes, Meebs, Kodas, Voyagers, and more broke on through to the Otherside to compete in the latest episode of Project Dragon. The event was chaotic, with an almost record-breaking number of frens from around the swamp and the Ape ecosystem showing up to blast each other and check out Yuga Labs’ highly anticipated metaverse.
After the event, Yuga Labs Co-Founder Gordon Goner tweeted that the future of Otherside bored and bright!
“Can’t wait for you to see what @CryptoGarga and the team have been cooking up on @OthersideMeta,” Goner tweeted. “Last night was fun as hell, but it’s going to get wilder. Great recap video of the legitimately insane WR attempt here. Next month we smash it.”
While we don’t know everything Yuga Labs is planning to make the Otherside "fun as hell" when the persistent world opens in June 2025, we do know that the company has teased its own activaitons like poker, Bubble Hangout Spaces, and games like Project Dragon as well as community creations made with the game's Otherside Development Kit.
“We need that to make sure we have a strong base, and get us set up for persistent Otherside, which we plan for ~June of this year," Garga said in the Otherside Discord last month. Persistent Otherside does NOT mean we are done, it's just a super important milestone. It means always-on world, strong ODK to allow Unreal-capable builders to create awesome shit (and have access to all the Otherside biomes to do that), and some ODK experiences that we're proud of that show the capabilities of the platform. And that include some stuff we're really excited about on the AI front. It also means the several key islands (Nexus, Swamp, Meetropolis to start) are up 24/7, which we expect people to congregate. Once we're persistent and have the ODK in strong shape, then the next part of the roadmap revolves around our plans for resources and artifacts.”
As far as ODK exprreinces go, we know that Garga and the Yuga Labs team were looking to hire a South Korea-based Unreal dev shop to work on a new Otherside experience last month. At that same time, Garga also teased that Yuga Labs was collaborating with longtime BAYC member CryptoVonDoom’s Cmnd Line company to create a “killer experience” for the Otherside.
This means we could be seeing quite a few community made creatations once Otherside opens!
The Bored Ape Gazette will continue to follow all of Yuga Labs’ Otherside developments and will let you know when the company announces more activities and activations coming to the metaverse later this year. Stay tuned for updates!
