"I WANT TO FUCKING WIN": The Ape Foundation Hired Yuga Labs Lawyer Cameron Kates As Its First CEO And He Plans To Work Closely With Yuga Labs Going Forward!

Writer: KyleKyle

It’s a new dawn at the ApeCoin DAO. A familiar face from Yuga Labs has swung into the ApeChain trenches, taken the helm as the Ape Foundation’s first CEO, and made two things clear: he wants to fucking win, and $APE will be working closely with Yuga Labs going forward.

Things were anything but boring on Friday after the ApeCoin DAO announced that the Ape Foundation had hired longtime Yuga Labs Chief Legal Officer Cameron Kates, aka CiabattaYuga, as its first Chief Executive Officer.

Shortly after the announcement, Kates joined BAYC members Chris Jourdan and Steve Bark on Coffee with Captain, where he shared his vision for ApeCoin and didn’t hold back.

“I want to fucking win,” Kates said. “So badly. I want $APE to win. I’ve been here from the start from the literal earliest days. I remember where I was when ApeCoin dropped and the role I had the chance to play. I just want $Ape to win. I want the $APE ecosystem to win. That’s honestly why I’m stepping in. We know there’s a lot of work ahead, and anyone out there who’s got big ideas, anyone who wants to win, you will have my phone number. You will have my Telegram. You can find me anywhere. I will take the call. I’m not backing down from this.”

To fucking win, Kates laid out a plan to expand ApeCoin’s global reach and work more closely with Yuga Labs now that the regulatory landscape has shifted.

“I want to look around the globe where we’ve built,” he said. “I know we haven’t always had the opportunity to do it. But we have deep connections in Asia, Europe, and the U.S. that we haven’t been able to explore. So it’s really about how we bring this all together, around one central idea and one central IP. But most importantly, now that the regulatory environment has changed, how do we finally work more closely with Yuga? We’ve all felt that tension and pain point. Greg and Wylie love the community and have wanted to be able to grow and lean in. I think this shows a commitment from Yuga, that I’m able to step away from Yuga and into the Ape Foundation full-time so we can all be a lot closer.”

Yuga Labs CEO Garga also joined the Coffee with Captain crew and echoed Kates’ optimism about the evolving regulatory environment, saying there are now major opportunities ahead for Yuga Labs and ApeChain.

“To put it into context, we have come out of one administration that was seemingly hellbent on killing all crypto in the US to one that is encouraging crypto companies in the us to lead. I think that implies some big changes and opportunities,” he said. “I think that implies some big changes and opportunities. for us we have been operating with one or both hands tied behind our backs. We shared the news that the SEC dropped its meritless case into us and we want to lean in and do a lot of different things that we were eager to do, and would have done years ago, if we didn’t have to ask permission and apologize every step of the way… Having someone like Cameron is hugely important. He’s also a lawyer so he knows exactly how the DAO is set up and to streamline operations and make things more efficient. We are super stoked he’s willing to jump into the breach here!”

As Kates gets ready to step into his role as CEO, he said his first order of business is getting the Ape Foundation ready to build and he’s not doing it alone.

In addition to Kates, Special Council Member Waabam will be joining the Foundation, and former Head of Partnerships at Yuga Labs, Won Kim, is coming onboard as the Foundation’s first Chief Commercial Officer.

The Bored Ape Gazette is working to bring you additional coverage of Kates’ CEO-ship and will continue to follow his leadership at the Ape Foundation. Stay tuned for updates!
