HALLOWEEN PARTY: 20,000 Mutant Jimmys Were Minted And Airdropped On ApeChain Today! Find Out More About this Insane Event:
The Jimmy’s collection brought the AHHHHHs to ApeChain this spooky season with its Mutant Jimmy mint and airdrop, inspired by the Bored Ape Yacht Club’s Mutant Ape Yacht Club release from 2021.
Saturday was a Halloween Party around the Jimmy FunHouse, with $APE holders apeing into the Magic Eden Mint Terminal to try and get a Mutant Jimmy. Meanwhile, holders of the project’s original 10,000 monkeys eagerly awaited their airdrop!
A total of 10,000 Mutant Jimmys were minted at 6.9 $APE each in less than two minutes, followed by an airdrop of 10,000 Mutant Jimmys to the original Jimmy holders.
“Is it too early for Mutants,” the project tweeted the night before today’s mint. “Well, we think it's best to adopt more Jimmys into our Funhouse as early as possible! While we do hear each and every of our Holders feedbacks, having two collections that stems from the early days of @Apecoin sounds rad! We can't wait to on-board more users into @Apecoin with these cute little monstrosities! See you in the Funhouse!”
Since the mint and airdrop, the market has warmly welcomed the new collection, with the Jimmy project’s floor price holding around 90 $APE and the Mutant Jimmy collection’s floor at 11.7 $APE—above the mint price—according to Magic Eden.
Mutant Jimmys have been taking over the timeline, with $APE holders and Jimmys sharing photos of their new, insane J-pegs.
Along with Jimmy’s popularity across timelines, the community has adopted a new copypasta trend:
“If you don't hold either a Jimmy or a Mutant Jimmy plz don't @ me or share your opinion on my wall, community members tweeted. “I don't care what you have to say. Reality is you need to Work harder, move out of your moms basement, stack Jimmies, buy a few real PFPs then share your opinion.”
Today’s Mutant Jimmy drop might feel familiar to anyone who’s been in the NFT space since the early days of the Bored Ape Yacht Club. On August 28, 2021—just four months after the first Bored Ape minted—Yuga Labs airdropped every holder a Mutant Serum that their Ape could chug to make an entirely new Mutant. They also held a Dutch auction for an additional 10,000 Mutant Apes.
“The MAYC is a way to reward our ape holders with an entirely new NFT—a “mutant” version of their ape—while also allowing newcomers into the BAYC ecosystem at a lower tier of membership,” The club explained at the time. “Mutants represent the final tier of membership; everything going forward occurs with the intention of accruing utility and member’s-only benefits to Bored Apes foremost, but also Mutants, and to a lesser extent, Bored Apes with BAKC companions.”
While today’s mint and airdrop echo BAYC’s past approach, the Jimmy project tweeted that it hopes to chart its own course and bring its own vibe in 2024.
“2021 NFT Vibes? No,” the Jimmy project tweeted this evening. “2024 Jimmy Vibes.”
The Bored Ape Gazette will continue to follow the Jimmy project and the Mutant Jimmys closely. Stay tuned for more updates from the Funhouse!
