COMING UP: The ApeCoin DAO Will Be Voting On A Revamped Governance Overhaul Proposal Later This Month, According To Special council Member Waabam

Change will be on the ballot soon after ApeCoin DAO Special Council Member Waabam announced that a new and improved governance proposal will be up for a vote later this month during a Bored Counsel Space today.

 

Two months after the ApeCoin DAO voted to delay the Winter 2024 election season in order to consider a governance overhaul proposal, Special Council member Waabam announced that a new AIP titled “ApeChain, On-chain – ApeCoin DAO Governance Revamp” has been shared, and $Ape holders will be invited to vote on it in the next cycle.

 

 

This new governance AIP is based on the original revamp proposal Waabam and his fellow Special Council members put forward in November, but it incorporates community feedback on key issues such as on-chain treasury management, voting, and the Special Council’s role.

In the proposal, Waabam outlines a vision for ApeCoin where 75% of the DAO’s treasury would reside on ApeChain. The Special Council’s role would shift from administrative reviewer to an ambassador for $Ape, with salaries reduced from $125,000 USD to 36,000 $Ape. Additionally, a new 11-person Security Council and Data Availability Committee would be established. The proposal also revamps the AIP process, making it an eight-phase, 27-37 day on-chain process that requires community support, temperature checks, KYC requirements, and contract negotiations before reaching a DAO-wide vote.

In this revamped AIP process—mirroring Arbitrum DAO’s governance style, which relies heavily on delegation—AIP authors will need to gather 250,000 $Ape votes for a temperature check to initiate the process. To call for a vote, authors will need to secure 500,000 $Ape votes in support.

“This process puts a greater emphasis on participating in delegations and on getting support for your idea before it gets submitted to a vote to the entire DAO,” Waabam told the Gazette back in November. 2024” So any community member can still suggest ideas for proposals on discourse - they just need to get a delegation to support it in order to ultimately send it to a temperature check.”

 

$Apes are encouraged to visit the DAO’s Discourse forum and share their opinions on this new governance proposal before it officially goes up for a vote later this month.
