“CAMERON IS A BEAST”: The Yugaverse Reacts To Yuga Labs’ Cameron Kates Being Named The First CEO Of The Ape Foundation

Writer: KyleKyle

From defending the Bored Ape Yacht Club in court to becoming ApeCoin’s first Chief Executive Officer, Cameron Kates is a man of few tweets, only one, to be exact, but Apes from Yuga Labs CEO Garga to Captain Trippy sing his praises and are eager to see him at the helm of the Ape Foundation.

Things were anything but boring on Friday when the ApeCoin DAO announced that the Ape Foundation had hired Kates to be its first-ever CEO.

While Kates is quiet on Twitter, only posting once to celebrate a Yuga Labs’ legal victory, he’s a big personality behind the scenes and has been making his presence known around the swamp for years, which has led Garga and others to believe he’s the perfect man for this new role.

“Having someone like Cameron is hugely important,” Garga said on coffee with Captain yesterday.  “He’s also a lawyer so he knows exactly how the DAO is set up and to streamline operations and make things more efficient. We are super stoked he’s willing to jump into the breach here!”

Garga isn’t the only one bullish on Kates’ leadership. Former Special Council member and Banana Bill Advisory Committee member Captain Trippy took to the timeline to endorse him as CEO.

We are lucky to have someone with the necessary skills, experience, passion, and intimate knowledge of our ecosystem in Cam,” Cap tweeted. “I am excited that he is taking the helm as head of @apecoin, and with the support of a great team, including  @Waabam_eth, @wonk1mand others. I’ve enjoyed getting to know and working with Cam and the rest of the Banana Bill team over the last 10 months and Waabam now for 2 years. I will sleep well knowing we are in good hands with Cam, Waabam, and Won leading the way. It’s been a long and bumpy road to get to today. Thank you to all those, including the community, for helping to make this happen. I’m confident under this new streamlined leadership, the Ape Foundation and ApeChain is set up for continued success into the future.”

Animoca Brands Chairman and former ApeCoin Special Council member Yat Siu also tweeted that Cameron coming to ApeChain fulltime was a huge win for $APE.

“Congratulations to Cameron and the Ape Foundation! This is a huge win for @apecoin bringing the  @yugalabs, @BoredApeYC ecosystem definitively closer to the $APE community!”

In addition to DAO leadership backing the hire, BAYC member and Mutant Cartel Creator Lior.eth called Kates “a beast,” and ThankApe Ecosystem Lead Dilly Dilly gave everyone the TL;DR on Kates, tweeting, “Great move, much momentum, ApeCoin/ApeChain is making waves. I'm excited to see the foundational layers being established for our future.”

As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, Kates joined BAYC members Chris Jourdan and Steve Bark on Coffee with Captain yesterday, where he shared his vision for ApeCoin, saying his top priority is for ApeCoin to “fucking win” and to work closely with Yuga Labs to make the ecosystem great.

“I want to look around the globe where we’ve built,” he said. “I know we haven’t always had the opportunity to do it. But we have deep connections in Asia, Europe, and the U.S. that we haven’t been able to explore. So it’s really about how we bring this all together, around one central idea and one central IP. But most importantly, now that the regulatory environment has changed, how do we finally work more closely with Yuga? We’ve all felt that tension and pain point. Greg and Wylie love the community and have wanted to be able to grow and lean in. I think this shows a commitment from Yuga, that I’m able to step away from Yuga and into the Ape Foundation full-time so we can all be a lot closer.”

The Bored Ape Gazette is working to bring you additional coverage of Kates and will continue to follow his leadership at the Ape Foundation. Stay tuned for updates!
