The Moonbirds were chirping on the timeline yesterday after Yuga Labs released a 94-page community story guide for the Birbs that sets the theme and tone of the collection while clearly defining the characters that make up this mystical realm!

The Moonbirds collection was officially fleshed out on Wednesday after Yuga Labs took to the timeline and shared an all-new story guide designed to help steer the flock going forward.

"Introducing the Moonbirds Community Story Guide," Yuga LAbs tweeted. "Built for creators and storytellers who want to weave Moonbirds into their stories, games, or products. Explore the lore. Expand the universe."

The book begins by establishing the project’s central theme: “Fear is a shadow cast by your own hand.”

“Remember, stories don’t have a theme; stories are a theme. The story itself is the manifestation of the theme,” Yuga Labs wrote. “This might seem simple, but it doesn’t limit creativity; rather it opens up endless possibilities for expressing the theme through different characters, settings, and plots.”

From there, Yuga Labs defines the tone of the Moonbirds universe as “Dystopian, Fantasy, Heartfelt.”

“Do not be afraid to tap into the emotional lives of these characters,” Yuga Labs wrote. “Their complex emotional lives allow the audience to become invested.”

After defining the world, Yuga Labs dove into the cahracters that make up the Moonbirds universe and their home.

The guide explains that fear is at the heart of Moonbirds culture and identity, and introduces readers to The Yrgtree, the Moonbirds’ ancestral home and sanctuary from that fear.

Yuga Labs also defined the Mythics  as the exaaated aancestors of the Moonbirds who accidentally created a living manifestation of fear known as the Dred, which are phsycail beings that aim to consume the Birbs’ homeworld of Volaria.

Yuga also redefines the Oddities as “reanimated pellets expelled during the Moonbirds’ digestion process.”

Along with setting the tone and expanding on characters we know, Yuga Labs also introduced a cast of lesser-known figures who inhabit the world of the Moonbirds. Take a look at some of them below:

While the story guide clarifies many details about the Birbs, Yuga Labs closed the document by encouraging the community to keep building and to use the guide as a creative foundation.

“Use the theme as your compass, the company wrote. “ The theme, “Fear is a shadow cast by your own hand” should be the core of every story you create. Let it guide your character arcs, plot developments, and settings.”
