B(ored)MW BALLOT: Popil Wants To Design A Bored And Elegant ApeCar For The Bored Ape Bimmer Club Art Contest!

Popil has made a name for herself around the swamp and in the $Ape community over the years, creating trinkets and tea through her Made By Apes businesses and becoming one of the ApeCoin DAO’s first Marketing Working Group Stewards! No matter what she does, Popil always finds a way to make her work pop and stand out, which can be a challenge in the fast-paced world of Web3. Now, she hopes to bring some of that magic to the Bored Ape Yacht Club and help design a one-of-a-kind BMW!

BAYC members are heading to the polls this evening to cast their votes in the Club's Bored Ape Bimmer Club Art Contest, where one artist will be chosen to design a 1/1 ApeCar that’s anything but boring.

One of the five Bored artists whose designs are on the ballot is Popil, who aims to create an ApeCar that combines so of the club’s most insane traits with BMW’s elegant history.

“Inspired by the 2023 BMW x BAYC collaboration, my design merges BAYC’s distinctive features with BMW’s elegance. I incorporated sharp teeth, laser eyes, and mutant traits, graphically stylizing these elements to reflect both speed and sophistication. Fluid lines enhance the sense of motion while maintaining BMW’s refined aesthetic.”

To learn more about her car and why the community should vote for her, the Bored Ape Gazette reached out to Popil for an interview. Check it out below:

1. How does it feel to be picked to possibly design this car?

“Being selected to design the Bored Ape X BMW car makes me feel incredibly honored and excited. This is a unique opportunity to combine my artistic style with such a well-known car brand and my absolute favorite BAYC. I have always been exploring how to merge traditional art with modern technology, and this collaboration perfectly aligns with my creative vision.”

2. Can you tell me a bit more about your design? What was your inspiration?

“My design combines the distinctive style of the Bored Ape Yacht Club with the luxury of BMW. I hope to present a visual effect that is both avant-garde and classic through the combination of colors and patterns. The inspiration mainly comes from fluidity, speed, street art, futurism, and natural elements. I hope this design can attract not only members of the BAYC community but also a broader audience. At the same time, I hope this is a car that can be driven around the Other Side; I can already imagine how impressive it would be to sit in my designed BMW with my Ape!”

3. Why should the community pick your design?

The community should choose my design because I have extensive experience in combining art with technology and a portfolio full of imagination and innovative spirit. My design philosophy aligns perfectly with the spirit of the BAYC community—we all strive for uniqueness, innovation, and breaking the mold. I believe my design can bring a unique visual experience to this collaboration. Additionally, I have years of experience working with major brands (for example, I was a contracted artist with Nike for seven years, a featured artist with Procreate and Photoshop, a teacher and artist with Apple, and an animator collaborating with MoMA). I believe design is power, and I hope my design can speak for itself!

4. Do you have anything else you’d like to add or say?

“I am very grateful to BAYC and BMW for giving me this opportunity to showcase my creations. I hope everyone will like this design and look forward to more similar collaborations in the future. I am also very excited to meet everyone at ApeFest and share more about the creative process and sources of inspiration with the community members. Thank you all for your support!”

The voting window is currently open, and BAYC members can take a closer look at the five artists' designs, learn more about them, and cast their votes anytime between now and 12:30 P.M. EST tomorrow here: http://bmw.bayc.com.

The Bored Ape Gazette is working to bring you interviews with all five artists. Stay tuned for updates!
