APES ON APECHAIN: Yuga Labs Rolled Out A New Feature That Puts A Mirror Of Holders Apes On ApeChain

Mirror, mirror on the chain, who is the boredest of them all?

Bored Apes and Mutants live on Ethereum, but now each Ape has a mirrored version on ApeChain after Yuga Labs rolled out a new mirroring feature that makes it easier for developers and builders to reward Apes!

Since ApeChain launched over the weekend at ApeFest, some have noticed that they already had an NFT of their primate in their wallet on the recently launched Apechain.

 

“These are non-tradeable mirror contracts,” Yuga Labs’ VP of Product PP Man tweeted. “Basically these mirror tokens follow the real owner, but on ApeChain. It’s just a tool for any ApeChain builder to make it easier for them to track BAYC MAYC ownership. For example we used them for the free BAYC MAYC @Toptrader_xyzclaim.”

 

 

Following PP Man’s post, Yuga Labs’ VP of Blockchain, Quit, wrote a five-part thread explaining these mirror contracts and announced that Yuga Labs will make this feature available to every NFT and chain soon.

“Every ape that exists on mainnet also exists on ApeChain, assigned to the same owner,” he wrote. “These "shadow" tokens move when their mainnet counterparties move, and are otherwise soulbound. They're unsellable and untransferable, but always there. At the moment, the mechanism is naive: Yuga runs an indexer that keeps the ApeChain variants in sync with mainnet. Still, it's helpful for builders that want to use ape ownership in their apps, for instance, they power our Top Trader free entries! However, we're working to rebuild them as decentralized cross-chain shadows, where updates can be triggered by anybody, at any time. I wasn't going to post about it until it was done, but I'm seeing some confusion about the current existence of these NFTs on ApeChain. Once the contracts are done, any collection will be able to easily deploy their canonical shadows to ApeChain (or anywhere!). We're super excited for the unlocks this provides.”
