Tuesday, April 15th is not only Tax Day in the United States but also the day the ApeCoin DAO’s three NFT-based staking pools migrate from Ethereum mainnet to ApeChain!

Tomorrow will be anything but boring around the swamp as the Bored Ape-only, Mutant Ape-only, and Bored Ape Kennel Club staking pools close on Ethereum and reopen on ApeChain, utilizing Yuga Labs’ new Shadow tech.
“Staking mirgating to Apechain is around the corner,” ApeChain’s Ngbshpend tweeted. “Apes will need to unstake + claim their Ape on the current site, bridge to ApeChain, then restake on the ApeChain stake site. Your NFT Shadows will be the key to this pool similar to how your NFTs are the key to the current pool.”
While this might sound intimidating, fear not. The ApeCoin DAO plans to share a series of videos tomorrow to help guide Apes through the process and make sure everyone gets staked on the ApeChain side.
As we wait for the DAO to drop its official walkthroughs, Apes can brush up on how to unstake and claim their accrued $Ape via the Ethereum mainnet contract by watching former Special Council Member Gerry’s staking tutorial from 2022:
After unstaking and claiming their tokens, Apes will need to bridge their Ethereum-based $Ape to ApeChain via Relay or the ApeChain portal here: https://apechain.com/portal
Remember: every ApeCoin staked from tomorrow on must be on ApeChain and Instead of using the actual NFT as the key to staking like before, Apes will now use their NFTs' ApeChain Shadows, which will either be in the same wallet as their NFTs or in a wallet that it was delegated to via Delegate.xyz.
“You do not need to bridge your ape, your Shadow will act as your staking key," Yuga Labs VP of Blockchain 0xQuit has previously tweeted ealrier this month. “You do need to bridge your ApeCoin. Withdraw from ApeStake, bridge, and then deposit on the new site. Best to do this as close to the migration date as possible."
At this time, the DAO has not released many specifics about the new staking platform where NFT holders will go to stake, but we do know that it will function similarly to the current ApeStake.io and, importantly, it will not be geo-blocked. This means that everyone, including users in the U.S., will be able to stake via the official website.
The Bored Ape Gazette will continue to follow the $Ape staking migration from Ethereum mainnet to ApeChain and will bring you a full report once it’s live tomorrow. Stay tuned for updates!
