From staking with your Ape to staking with its Shadow. ApeCoin staking is officially moving from Ethereum mainnet to ApeChain on April 15th!

$Apes and Apes are coming home this Ape-ril! On Friday, the ApeCoin DAO took to the timeline and announced that the Bored Ape Only, Mutant Ape Only, and Bored Ape Kennel Club staking pools will close on Ethereum and reopen on ApeChain.

“ApeCoin NFT staking is migrating to ApeChain on April 15, 2025,” the DAO tweeted. “If you want to keep accruing rewards you will need to move your $APE to ApeChain and re-stake on the new staking site. BAYC/MAYC/BAKC Shadows will be utilized. Stay tuned for more info.”

At this time, we don’t have all the specifics on how this new shadow-based staking will work. But according to Yuga Labs Vice President of Blockchain, 0xQuit, the process will be very similar to the current ApeStake.io experience and it won’t be geo-blocked.

“Ape staking is moving to ApeChain,” he tweeted. “You do not need to bridge your ape, your Shadow will act as your staking key. You do need to bridge your ApeCoin. Withdraw from ApeStake, bridge, and then deposit on the new site. Best to do this as close to the migration date as possible. Staking on ApeChain won't be geoblocked. Fuck borders. Let America Eat Again.”

0xQuit also joined today’s Meet At The Clubhouse space and revealed a major change to the Bored Ape Kennel Club paired staking pool. Previously, this pool required users to also own a BAYC or MAYC, but once staking moves to ApeChain, it will become a BAKC-only pool. That means BAKC holders who don’t own an Ape or Mutant will now be able to stake for the first time!

With the BAYC, MAYC, and revamped BAKC-only staking pools all heading to ApeChain later this month, all ApeCoin staking will officially be on ApeChain.

As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, the DAO sunset the $APE-only staking pool in November 2024 in favor of native yield on-chain.

Currently, the ApeCoin DAO is in the third and final year of its staking program, which is set to end on or around March 3rd, 2026. During this final year, the DAO will distribute 25 million $APE to stakers across the three NFT pools and through native yield, according to the rewards schedule established in AIP-21 and AIP-22 back in 2022.

The Bored Ape Gazette will continue to follow ApeCoin staking’s move to ApeChain as we get closer to the April 15th migration. Stay tuned for updates!
